A red candy apple vintage VW pimped out with a retractable roof sporting a flat screen T.V. attracts your eyes, but it is the refrigerated display window that boasts freshly made to order sushi that pleases the tummy.
A couple of meters to the left, an old-school city bus has been transformed into a fully equipped kitchen and mobile BBQ, specializing in caipirinhas to wash down big drippy hamburgers. Not far from that scene, sweet-tooths line up alongside a 1960’s bright orange Fiat dishing out traditional Italian gelati.

All in all, Amsterdam’s Rollende Keukens event taking place in front of Westergasfabriek in the Westerpark seemed to be a success. Live music, performance art and dozens of food fabricating vehicles were combined to create an impressively large pot-luck picnic for all of Amsterdam to enjoy.
However, to our slight disappointment, with all the food choices we saw, only a handful could be considered “healthy eating “options. In other words, it was pretty easy to be bad… especially when faced with child-like gluttony and a kaleidoscope of sights and smells.
No worries though, the extremely amicable and festive atmosphere made up for the lack of green and grains. If this is a concern for you, don’t fret, you can still eat healthily and enjoy next year’s Rollende Keukens event by keeping your eyes open for the Foodlem mobile kitchen next year, you’ll not be disappointed.
